tuning

Is an Accessport/tune worth it on a mostly stock VB?

Yes, if you care most about power and drivability and accept the warranty risk; no, if warranty peace of mind matters more.

Full Answer

This is one of the most emotionally split VB questions. On one side, a lot of owners say the Accessport plus a good tune makes the car pull harder, respond better, and feel more linear, and many specifically recommend custom or better-regarded OTS tunes over generic canned maps. On the other side, there is also a real camp of owners who say the stock VB tune is already pretty good, and that giving up warranty coverage or adding monitoring anxiety was not worth it for them. So the consensus is not “everybody should tune.” It is: the VB responds well to tuning, but the decision depends on whether you value the added power more than factory simplicity and warranty protection.

The COBB Accessport is the most widely used ECU tuning solution for the WRX, acting as a handheld device that allows users to flash preloaded (“OTS”) maps or custom tunes directly to the car. For the 2022+ VB WRX, it enables significant gains in drivability, throttle response, and power when paired with proper supporting mods. COBB’s OTS maps provide a safe, entry-level upgrade for common setups (intake, catback), while custom protunes or e-tunes unlock the full potential of the platform. The device also functions as a real-time gauge cluster, data logger, code reader/clearer, and diagnostic tool. For most WRX owners, the Accessport is the foundation of any performance build—especially once modifying intake, fueling, or exhaust components beyond a catback.
