Can I drive a WRX on the factory summer tires in winter?
No, not safely. Summer compound goes hard below roughly 45F and loses grip on dry roads as well as snow. All-wheel drive helps you accelerate and does nothing at all for braking or cornering.

Should I run 255/40R18 or 265/35R18 tires on a 2022+ WRX?
Neither is the default - 255/35 is. Between these two, 265/35 is wider and slightly shorter than stock, while 255/40 is taller than stock and the more likely to rub once lowered.
