Atlas is an ECU calibration and datalogging application developed by North American Motorsports Research (NAMR) for supported Subaru WRX models, including the 2022+ VB chassis. It supports reading and editing the factory calibration, flashing the ECU, live gauges, datalogging, realtime tuning, reading and clearing diagnostic trouble codes, and user-authored ECU logic built in the Atlas custom feature designer. Atlas is a Java application distributed for Windows, macOS (including Apple silicon), and Linux. Atlas is software only. Connecting to the vehicle requires a separately purchased OBD-II adapter, and NAMR's current supported-device documentation lists the Tactrix Openport 2.0 and the OBDX Pro VX. The 2026.1 release added CAN receive inputs for custom features, support for common ethanol flex-fuel kits, and wireless flashing with the OBDX Pro VX. Atlas installs a bootloader-level brick-protection routine on the first flash, and documents a recovery procedure that re-flashes an ECU whose programming was interrupted. Licensing is worth reading carefully. NAMR distributes Atlas free of charge for personal, non-commercial use and states plainly that it is not open source: the project moved from an open-source to a free, closed-source model, and the published source repository carries an all-rights-reserved licence. Professional or commercial tuner use requires a commercial licence arranged with NAMR. "Open tuning platform" is project branding, not a statement about the software's source-code licence. As of Atlas 2026.1.10 (released 16 May 2026), NAMR's support matrix lists USDM VB WRX 6MT support for 2022 through 2026, and USDM CVT support for 2022 and 2026. USDM 2023, 2024, and 2025 CVT applications are listed against a future 2026.2 release and are not covered by the current version. NAMR also publishes free off-the-shelf calibrations and a gauge set for USDM and AUDM VB WRX manual cars. Two limitations matter before switching ecosystems. Atlas cannot read, modify, flash over, view gauges for, or datalog a calibration installed by a COBB Accessport or other proprietary third-party device; the Accessport has to be unmarried and the vehicle returned to its stock calibration first. Separately, NAMR states that Atlas flash functionality will not operate on a vehicle located in or registered in California, and that its software is not supported in that state. NAMR does not support, and does not provide definitions for, disabling or bypassing regulated emissions systems or emissions-related DTCs; suppression of non-emissions DTCs is supported. Flashing an ECU carries a real risk of engine damage or an inoperable ECU if an incompatible or badly built calibration is used, and NAMR states that use is entirely at the user's own risk.

Atlas requires a separately purchased OBD-II adapter. NAMR's current supported-device documentation lists the Tactrix Openport 2.0 (wired USB) and the OBDX Pro VX (USB, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth), both at roughly 60-100 Hz logging. NAMR's FAQ additionally describes STN-based adapters such as the OBDLink EX as supported through a built-in driver, and notes that ELM327 devices can datalog with restrictions.

View sourceAtlas cannot flash new calibrations, change maps, view gauges, or datalog on a vehicle running a calibration installed by a COBB Accessport or another proprietary third-party device. NAMR states that to use Atlas on a vehicle married to an Accessport, the Accessport must first be unmarried and the vehicle returned to its stock calibration.

View sourceNAMR states that the Atlas flash functionality will not operate on any vehicle located in or registered in the state of California, and that Atlas and other NAMR software products are not supported in that state.

View sourceNAMR supports suppression of non-emissions diagnostic trouble codes only. It states it will not support, facilitate, or provide definitions that disable, bypass, or suppress regulated emissions control systems, including emissions-related DTCs, EGR, TGVs, catalysts, O2 and EGT sensors, and the evaporative emission system.

View sourceNAMR's support matrix for the current 2026.1 release train lists USDM VB WRX 6MT support for 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026, and USDM CVT support for 2022 and 2026. USDM 2023, 2024, and 2025 CVT applications are listed against a future 2026.2 release and are not supported by the shipping version. AUDM VB coverage is narrower and partly in progress.

Atlas is free for personal, non-commercial use and NAMR states it is not open source, having moved from an open-source to a free closed-source model. Professional or commercial tuner use requires a commercial licence arranged with NAMR.

View sourceNAMR's off-the-shelf VB calibrations are written for an otherwise stock intake, turbo, fuel system, and exhaust manifold. Cat-back and axle-back exhausts and chassis or suspension changes are listed as supported alongside them; intakes, intercoolers, charge pipes, upgraded turbos or wastegates, and fuel-system upgrades are not, and need a calibration written for that hardware.
