Turbo-inlet requirements are product- and combination-specific. PERRIN says its inlet hose for the 2022-2026 WRX was designed and tested without required ECU recalibration. The same page lists different variants for different intakes and notes that some COBB, AMS, and ETS combinations require trimming, which is why a category-wide fitment or risk promise is inappropriate.
Match the inlet variant to the exact intake, model year, and transmission, and follow the installation instructions. Check every connection for leaks. If the vehicle uses an aftermarket ECU map, tell the tuner about the inlet and intake combination and confirm that the map covers all installed hardware before relying on it.
Whether an inlet is worthwhile depends on the existing restriction, turbo, goals, and supporting parts; there is no defensible blanket value judgment for every stock-turbo car. Treat a check-engine light, unusual trims, boost behavior, or drivability change as a fault to investigate.
Also check the product's emissions-use notice and warranty terms. Subaru's published language excludes damage or failure resulting from modifications, so neither zero warranty risk nor automatic loss of every warranty claim should be promised.
