ATLAS Custom Features Guide
New logic compiled into the ECU, not different numbers in existing tables. This is what a handheld cannot do.
Verdict
Speed density and flex fuel are the two features with genuine everyday value. Launch control and boost by gear are useful with discipline, and oil pressure safety is the most underrated item on the list.
What a custom feature actually is
This is worth getting straight, because the term gets used loosely. A conventional tune adjusts values in tables the ECU already contains - boost targets, ignition timing, fuel maps. However good the tuner, they are working within what the factory ECU was built to do. A custom feature is new logic compiled into the map. ATLAS provides a visual logic node graph that compiles new behaviour into the ECU, and the first-party feature library is the result. These are capabilities the car did not previously have, at any setting, from any conventional map. That is the specific gap this fills, and it is the clearest practical answer to why someone would choose ATLAS over a handheld beyond price. No off-the-shelf map, however well developed, can add launch control to a car that never had it. The VB was the first platform to receive this library, and it is free. One requirement applies to everything below: these features need ATLAS 2026.1 or later. If you are on an older version they will not be available, and version checking is the first step of any of this.
The two with genuine everyday value
**Speed density.** The most significant feature on the list for a modified car. It replaces reliance on the MAF sensor with ideal gas law calculations using TMAP sensor readings, tuned through two volumetric efficiency tables. Why that matters on a VB specifically: the entire tune-required question on this platform revolves around the MAF sensor. Intakes need a tune because a larger housing changes what the sensor reports. Speed density changes the terms of that problem, and the documented benefits are smoother operation, more precise fuel trims and tolerance for intake modifications. That last point is the one that changes builds. A fueling strategy that tolerates intake changes is a different relationship with airflow hardware than the one most VB owners live with. **Ethanol flex fuel over CAN bus.** Measures ethanol content and automatically adapts fuel target and ignition timing to whatever is in the tank, unlocking additional ignition timing from ethanol's knock resistance. No manual input required. Given that ethanol is the best value power on this platform - worth roughly 29 wheel horsepower over pump gas on an otherwise Stage 1 car - having flex fuel handled as a compiled feature rather than a bolt-on tuning problem is genuinely valuable. You still need the sensor hardware; what this provides is the logic to use it well.

What are ATLAS custom features, and which ones are available for the VB WRX?
They are new logic compiled into the ECU rather than map adjustments. The VB library includes speed density, flex fuel, altitude boost rescaling, launch control, boost by gear, oil pressure safety, SI Drive reenablement and a knock light.

Can ATLAS add launch control to a 2022+ WRX?
Yes. It is a documented first-party custom feature that lowers a configurable launch point, defaulting to 4100 rpm, when the clutch is in, a gear is selected and the car is stationary.
